Still a hidden gem, at least until the cable cars come, H Street in northeast still has the character and charm of old-fashioned DC. Mature neighbors, who can recount DC during Marion Barry’s terms as mayor, can walk down the street to sushi, beer, coffee, and mussels. Before heading to HR 57, call in advance and try the restaurant Sticky Rice. I love their sushi and try the Sticky Balls and Tatter Tots.

I will continue to stay on my red wine kick (my mother loves red wine). You want a light to medium red? Try Almos Malbec. The wine is soft and supple, with black raspberry and currant flavors mingled with notes of sweet spice and a touch of leather. Cost $10. Take a bottle or two when you head to HR 57. You can purchase from any local wine or grocery store.
